1891 N194 W. S. Kimball "Household Pets" SGC-Graded Complete Set (25)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,185.00

Complete 25-card set of N194 Kimball "Household Pets." Each card features a brightly colored illustration of a household animal alongside a woman framed inside a white background. The reverse includes an advertisement for W. S. Kimball & Co. as well as a listing of the brands with which these cards were issued. This is a particularly scarce nineteenth-century tobacco set (probably because it is a W. S. Kimball issue, which in general tend to be rarer than cards from many other issuers) and one that because of its subject matter has always been very popular with collectors. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). SGC grading composite: One EX+ 70, one EX 60, seven VG/EX+ 55, one VG/EX 50, two VG+ 45, one VG 40, seven GOOD 30, and five FAIR 20. Almost all of the lesser-graded examples present at the Vg-Ex to Ex level, but have been downgraded due to small areas of paper loss or glue residue on the reverse, both very common among nineteenth-century cards. This is a very bright, clean, and extremely attractive set of this classic nonsport issue. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,185.00
