Key Rare Issues #2 through #10 of Playboy Magazine (Jan. 1954- Sept. 1954) - All Graded by CGC

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,370.00

When Playboy magazine debuted on newsstands in December 1953, few realized at the time how iconic the magazine would become. While the Marilyn Monroe cover of that classic first issue helped attract attention to the new publication, it was the magazine's standard format of provocative articles, high-quality literature, and, of course, photos of the female form that kept readers coming back for more. Offered here are issues 2 through 10 of Playboy magazine, each dating from 1954. These early issues are rare and have always been especially highly prized by collectors. In fact, these are considered by advanced collectors to be the key rare issues (perhaps even rarer than issue #1, which people instinctively knew was a classic and tended to save). This offering is all the more noteworthy for the fact that nearly all these examples are in extremely high grade, with each issue having been encapsulated and graded by CGC. The issues and corresponding grades are as follows: Issue #2 (January 1954) – CGC 5.0 VG/F; Issue #3 (February 1954) – CGC 8.0 VF; Issue #4 (March 1954) – CGC 7.5 VF-; Issue #5 (April 1954) – CGC 7.5 VF-; Issue #6 (May 1954) – CGC 9.0 VF/NM; Issue #7 (June 1954) – CGC 9.0 VF/NM; Issue #8 (July 1954) – CGC 8.0 VF; Issue #9 (August 1954) – CGC 9.2 NM-; and Issue #10 (September 1954) – CGC 8.5 VF+. Total: 9 graded issues. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
