Small portrait photo signed by Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), American inventor. Edison has beautifully inscribed the photo in black fountain pen (grading "9/10"). The formal studio image, which pictures Edison as a young man, features his name, "Edison" printed along the base. Dubbed “The Wizard of Menlo Park,” Edison is one of the most important figures in American history. As the holder of over 1,000 patents, he helped usher in the modern age by introducing, among other things, the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and motion pictures. The photo (3.25 x 5 inches) is in Near Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 10.5 x 13 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,303.50
