1926 Spalding Champions Benny Friedman - Rookie

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,777.50

Extremely rare 1926 Spalding Champions rookie card of football Hall of Famer Benny Friedman. The Spalding Champions set (designated "Sports Co. of America" by SGC in reference to the advertising on the reverse) are perhaps the most classic cards of the 1920s. They are beautifully and elegantly designed, and magnificently produced. They are also very rare. (If not for just a few significant finds of these over the past several decades, hardly any examples would be available to collectors today!) This card is highly sought after by football Hall of Fame rookie-card collectors and is one of Friedman's only trading-card appearances during his playing career. This particular copy presents well but has been encapsulated as Authentic by SGC due to trimming. An area of paper loss affects some of the biographical text on the reverse and two vertical creases are present. The condition is secondary to its rarity as it is only one of two examples listed on the combined PSA and SGC population reports. A rare opportunity to acquire this scarce and desirable Hall of Fame rookie card. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,777.50
