1980 Wade Boggs Signed Pro-Model Bat (Minor League)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $711.00

Wade Boggs Louisville Slugger signature-model "P89" bat dating from the 1980 season. This bat dates to Bogg's first season at Pawtucket, the Red Sox's AAA farm club and a member of the International League. Boggs' initials "WB" are written on the knob in black marker. The cupped-end bat displays heavy use along its entire length, including numerous ball marks, bat-rack marks, and pine tar on the handle. There is a small indentation on the right barrel and a small, repaired crack is evident on the handle. Boggs has signed the bat in black Sharpie (grading "8/9") below the barrel stamping, next to which is the printed in black Sharpie notation "#18/Int League/Batting Champ." Boggs was the International League batting champion, but it was in 1981, not 1980. That season the honor belonged to his teammate Dave Stapleton, who led the circuit with a .340 average. Boggs posted the sixth-best average in the league in 1980, finishing the year with a .306 average, one home run, and 45 RBI. Boggs finished his Major League career with 3,010 hits and a lifetime average of .328. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2005. This is the earliest Wade Boggs pro-model bat we have ever offered, and one that predates his 1982 Major League debut by two years. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 32.2 ounces. LOA from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA and LOA from James Spence/JSA.. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $711.00
