1977 Tug McGraw Philadelphia Phillies Home Jersey - MEARS A10

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,555.00

Philadelphia Phillies home jersey worn by relief pitcher Tug McGraw in 1977. Graded A10 by MEARS. The white-knit pinstripe jersey, with zipper front, features the club's "P" logo on the left breast. The number "45" appears on the right breast and reverse. The name "McGraw" is lettered on the reverse (upon a white nameplate) directly above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in maroon tackle twill. The name "McGraw" is chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson 42" label and a white strip tag bearing both the year and set number ("77 2") chain-stitched in black. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays heavy wear throughout. One of the game's most colorful characters, not to mention one of the top relief pitchers of the 1970s, McGraw appeared in forty-five games with the Phillies in 1977. He finished the season with a 7-3 record, 9 saves, and a 2.62 ERA. He later helped lead Philadelphia to its first ever World Championship in 1980. He retired after the 1984 season with 180 lifetime saves and a 3.14 ERA. This is the first Tug McGraw Phillies jersey we have ever offered and cannot imagine a finer example. LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500++. SOLD FOR $3,555.00
