1962 Bob Aspromonte Houston Colt .45's Home Jersey - Inaugural Season - MEARS A10

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $10,072.50

Houston Colt .45s home jersey worn by third baseman Bob Aspromonte during the club's inaugural 1962 season. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is an exceedingly rare flannel and one that is highly prized by collectors today for its attractive design. The club only used this jersey style for three seasons before changing its name to the Houston Astros in 1965. While any example is scarce, those dating from the club's 1962 inaugural season are particularly elusive. The fact that this example was worn by one of the club's most prominent players that season only adds to its appeal. The white flannel jersey features one of the most unique and attractive frontal designs ever created: a .45 pistol, with the name "Colts" formed by the smoke emanating from its barrel. The pistol is embroidered in sold blue, while the team name is embroidered in orange and blue. The number "14" is appliquéd on the reverse in blue on orange felt. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson 42 label" and a small, white strip tag bearing the year, "62," chain-stitched in black. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays heavy use, including a number of light, scattered stains on the front and reverse. Aspromonte, who scored the first run in Colt .45s franchise history, appeared in a team-high 142 games in 1962 and finished the season with 11 home runs, 59 RBI, and a .266 batting average. This is the first 1962 Colt .45s home jersey we have ever offered, and we cannot recall having seen more than two or three other examples. This is an exceptional high-grade example of this legendary jersey and one that is absent from many of the most advanced uniform collections. Included with the jersey is Bob Aspromonte's signed 1967 Houston Astros contract (Ex-Mt, with two notebook holes punched along the top). Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++. SOLD FOR $10,072.50
