Circa 1954 Don Mueller New York Giants Black Satin Jacket

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $592.50

New York Giants team jacket worn by outfielder Don Mueller during the 1950s. This jacket has a special provenance in that our consignor obtained it (along with the 1955 Giants uniform and circa 1950 Giants team jacket that are also featured in this auction) basically from Mueller himself. While attending a 1980s memorabilia show, our consignor witnessed Mueller enter the show with the three garments and personally sell them to a dealer friend of his (they were actually sitting together at his booth at the time). Immediately after Mueller left, our consignor indicated that he would love to have them all for his collection. Out of friendship, the dealer sold them to him for the same amount he had just paid Mueller. All of the garments have remained in our consignor's sole possession since that time. The black satin jacket features black-and-gold cloth trim along the collar, cuffs, and waist. A "MacGregor Goldsmith 44" label appears on the interior, while the team name, "Giants," is chain-stitched in orange lettering upon a black-satin patch on the left sleeve. The name "Mueller" is printed in black laundry marker on the interior gold lining, just below the rear collar. At the time it was obtained, Mueller stated that he wore it in 1954, but, like most outer garments, it probably saw use in a few other seasons as well. The jacket displays moderate wear, including a few tiny tears to the cloth trim at the cuffs, and a few loose threads on the interior left pocket. Major League team jackets, especially those dating from the 1950s, are scarce, and far rarer than most jerseys (in part, no doubt, because fewer were distributed). This is the first 1950s New York Giants black-satin jacket we have ever offered and we can't imagine a finer example, especially given its provenance. Reserve $200. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $592.50
