1911 Frank "Home Run" Baker Pocket Mirror

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,659.00

Incredible Frank Baker "1911 World Series Hero" pocket mirror! This has always been one of our all-time favorite baseball celluloid rarities. Frank Baker's heroics in the 1911 World Series, in which he hit two crucial home runs to help lead the Athletics to a six-game victory over the Giants, not only earned him the immortal nickname of "Home Run" Baker, but also the honor of having his image on a pocket mirror the following season. Presented is an outstanding example of this great classic: The Frank "Home Run" Baker pocket mirror, which has always been noted by advanced collectors both for its rarity and its exceptional display value. The celluloid pocket mirror features a bust-length image of Baker in uniform and is lettered "Frank Baker/Philadelphia Athletics/Hero 1911 Worlds Series." Manufactured by the Keystone Badge Company of Reading, Pennsylvania, as noted on the printing curl. Baseball pocket mirrors are much rarer than pinbacks from this era, especially those picturing an individual player. This is an outstanding example and one of the most desirable of all celluloid souvenirs dating from baseball's dead-ball era. The mirror side has a little wear to the silvering (which is very common with pocket mirrors); otherwise in spectacular Excellent to Mint condition! Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,659.00
