1999 New York Yankees Full-Size World Series Trophy Presented to Chili Davis - Over Two Feet Tall!

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $22,515.00

Some players know how to go out in style. Outfielder Chili Davis certainly did, spending the final two seasons of his illustrious nineteen-year career as a member of the 1998 and 1999 World Champion New York Yankees. Offered here is an exceedingly rare full-size New York Yankees World Series trophy issued to Chili Davis in 1999. Ideally, this trophy originates directly from Davis and is accompanied by a signed LOA from him attesting to its provenance. This massive piece, which stands over two feet in height and weighs almost thirty pounds, should not be confused with the more common, smaller versions seen in the hobby. This is an imperial-size trophy that is usually reserved for team owners and high-ranking club officials. Obviously, players could order them as well, with Davis eschewing the smaller example chosen by most players and instead opting for this majestic piece to commemorate his final season in the game. This is the first full-size New York Yankees World Series trophy we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen more than one or two others ever. The fact that it is a player's trophy, with impeccable provenance no less, and also commemorates the club's final World Championship of the century, makes it one of the most significant and desirable World Series trophies extant. In addition to its rarity and historical significance, it is also certainly one of the most visually impressive presentation pieces in the world of sports. Produced by world-renowned jewelers Balfour, the imposing design features thirty gold-colored pennants, each bearing the team name of a different Major League franchise, displayed around the perimeter of the black wooden base. The interior metal design consists of a silver baseball, set within a gold band, atop which rests a crown. Displayed directly in front of this are the 1999 World Series press pins for the Yankees and the Braves. The gold-colored band affixed around the base reads "World Series Champions/New York Yankees/1999/Chili Davis" in black lettering. Lettered in black on the reverse of the band is "Copyright 1983 Commissioner of Baseball." Many of the metal components display light-to-moderate tarnishing, otherwise the trophy remains in Near Mint condition. Height: 25 inches. Base Diameter: 13 inches. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $22,515.00
