1962 New York Mets Opening Day Ticket, Program, and Yearbook (3)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,777.50

This 1962 New York Mets opening-day collection, consisting of a full ticket, program, and yearbook, is notable not only for the rarity of the items contained within, but its extraordinary near-pristine condition. 1) Full ticket to the first home game in New York Mets history, held at the Polo Grounds on Friday, April 13, 1962. The ticket, for a lower-stand reserved seat, is stamped "Opening Day" in red and bears the number "1," denoting the first game of the season. The number "25" is written on the reverse in black pencil, which has been crossed out in red ink. Directly below is the number "23" in red ink. Aside from those notations on the reverse, the ticket (6 x 1.5 inches) is in Near-Mint to Mint condition. 2) 1962 New York Mets program. This program dates from one of the first three home games of the 1962 season against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Because the program is not scored, we are unable to state with certainty that it was issued for the first home game on April 13 (the programs sold at all three of the first home games were identical). However, the fact that an interior page heralds the coming series against the Houston Colt .45's on Monday, April 16, and Tuesday, April 17, conclusively dates it to the first home series of the season against the Pirates. The twenty-page program (5.75 x 9.25 inches) displays only modest handling and remains in Near-Mint to Mint condition. 3) New York Mets 1962 yearbook. The forty-six page yearbook (8.5 x 11 inches) features photos and biographies of all of the team members. There are a few minor surface wrinkles on the front and rear cover, which are of little consequence. Near Mint condition. This is the ultimate New York Mets opening-day collection, both in content and condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,777.50
