1907 Grignon Chicago Cubs Postcard Complete Set (16)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,147.50

Presented is a complete 16-card set of the rare and unusual Grignon Chicago Cubs photographic postcard series issued in 1907, highlighted by four Hall of Famers. This set was produced to commemorate the Cubs' participation in the 1907 World Series and is one of the most popular baseball postcard issues of the era. Each card pictures a large teddy bear in a baseball pose with a small black-and-white portrait of a Cubs player in an upper corner. This is the first complete set of this rare postcard issue we have ever offered. The set has been consigned by an extremely advanced old-time collector. Two cards grade Ex, three are Vg-Ex (including Mordecai Brown), three are Vg (including Joe Tinker), three are Gd (including Frank Chance and John Evers), and five are Fair. Twelve of the sixteen cards have never been mailed and have no writing on their traditional postcard reverses. This is a very sharp-looking complete set of these rare and very distinctive postcards. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Total: 16 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,147.50
