1904-1977 Vintage Baseball-Game Collection with Numerous Rarities (36)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,666.25

Please Note: all 36 games in this lot are pictured below.

This large and diverse baseball-game collection, consisting of thirty-six different games, spans the years 1904 through 1977 and features a number of significant titles and rarities. Nearly all forms of games are represented here, including card games, board games, and action games. The vast majority are player-endorsed games, with most picturing the respective player or players on the cover. Numbered among the highlights are the following games: 1) Babe Ruth National Game of Baseball (1921; Keiter-Fry Mfg. Co.). Vg, with light staining and a few abrasions on the front and back. 2) Lou Gehrig Official Play Ball (1932; Christy Walsh). Vg, with a number of light ink notations on the game board. 3) Walter Johnson Base Ball Game (1930; Walter Johnson Base Ball Game). 4) Waner's Baseball Game (circa 1930s; Waner's Baseball Inc.). Fr-Gd, with missing flap portions and tears. 5) Strike 3 by Carl Hubbell (1946; Tone Products Corporation). 6) All American Inside Baseball Game (1940; M-W Games Co.). We have never seen this game before, nor is it listed in the Cooper book. The attractive lid pictures a photo of a Major League game in progress, with inset portraits of both Joe McCarthy and William McKechnie (opposing managers in the 1939 World Series), as well as four commissioners or presidents of amateur baseball leagues. 7) Red Barber's Big League Baseball Game (1950, G&R Anthony, Inc.). This is one of the most elusive of all player-endorsed games. The cover features portrait images of Red Barber plus Burt Shotten, Tommy Henrich, Pee Wee Reese, Casey Stengel, Preacher Roe, and Carl Erskine. 8) Jackie Robinson Batter Up Baseball Game (1951, Arrow Toy & Novelty Co.). 9) Say Hey! Willie Mays Baseball Game (1954, Toy Development Company). 10) Dizzy Dean's Batter-Rou Baseball Game (1955, Memphis Plastic Enterprises). 11) Mickey Mantle's Big League Baseball (1962, Gardner & Company). 12) Roger Maris Baseball Game (1962, Play-Rite). 13) Big 6 Sports Games (1959, Gardner & Co). 14) Challenge the Yankees (1964, Hasbro). The boxes are in Very Good condition overall, displaying wear commensurate with their age and former use, including torn flaps, small tears, and minor creases. All of the interior components appear to be either complete or near complete, although we cannot state with certainty that all of the original pieces are present for each game. Most of the game boards and playing pieces are in Excellent condition overall. This is an extremely substantial baseball-game collection and one that has been assembled with great care over a period of many years. It is certainly by far the finest collection we have offered, both with regard to the number of particularly rare and desirable titles, as well as display value and overall condition. This is a tremendous collection! Although space limitations preclude us from listing each game individually in the catalog, a complete inventory of all the games is available via e-mail, fax, or regular mail upon request. Total: 36 different baseball games. The substantial size/weight of this collection requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,666.25
