Circa 1910 Hal Chase Fan - "A Fan For A Fan"

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,555.00

Hal Chase fan from the classic "A Fan For A Fan" series, issued circa 1910. Chase is one of five players featured in the rare "A Fan For A Fan" series, along with Christy Mathewson, Ty Cobb, Larry Doyle and the newly discovered Frank Baker. The colorful design for each fan in the series features a beautiful full-color portrait of the respective player set against a baseball design with the heading "A Fan For A Fan" above the portrait. A facsimile signature of the respective player appears below. The striking design and colorful graphics of this set make it one of the most attractive of all early baseball issues and ideal for display. It should be noted that these fans have been heavily reproduced, with many of the reproductions artificially aged. Because the reproductions are so commonly encountered on eBay and at flea markets, some collectors might underestimate just how rare the originals are. Also, when viewed in person, there is no comparison between the quality of the knockoffs (which are reproduced from auction-catalog images) and the originals. They are not even close, but the originals are so rare that few collectors have ever seen one. The reproductions are everywhere. Authentic examples are very rare! In fact, we have offered only four of these rare fans during the past ten years! The fan is in spectacular condition. It is bright and clean, with just a hint of light edge wear and a light diagonal crease running through Chase's hat. The colors are brilliant, bright, and bold. In Very Good to Excellent condition (if graded like a card), but clearly displaying even stronger as Excellent. Tremendous for display! Diameter: 7.25 inches. Handle length: 5.75 inches. Mounted and beautifully framed to total dimensions of 12.5 x 17.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,555.00
