1908 Nap Lajoie Fob and Scorer

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $711.00

Issued in 1908 by the Cleveland Leader newspaper, this rare celluloid advertising watch fob features Cleveland Indians star and Hall of Famer Napoleon Lajoie. Lajoie's portrait appears in blue tint against a gold background, encircled by white lettering in a blue border. The celluloid section with Lajoie's portrait is mounted on a high-quality pressed cardboard backing, which is elaborately designed with moving parts to function as an umpire's scorer on the reverse (works perfectly). The celluloid, which offers perfect image registration (often a problem with this advertising fob), has a few minute scratches which can only be seen if examined very closely, and which are mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy; otherwise it is in exceptional Nr-Mt condition. This is one of the finest examples of this magnificent early baseball celluloid that we have ever offered and one that is in far superior condition to nearly all other known specimens. An exceptional example of one of the premier baseball celluloid pieces of the era. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $711.00
