1970 New York Yankee Old Timers' Day Poster - Signed by Mantle, DiMaggio, and Thirty-One Others (Yankees Bat Boy Provenance!)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,370.00

This specially produced poster, issued at the 1970 New York Yankees Old Timers' Day game, features portrait photos of Casey Stengel and the members of "Casey Stengel's All-Time Yankee Team." It has been signed in blue ink by Stengel and all twenty-five players pictured: Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Bill Dickey, Whitey Ford, Phil Rizzuto, Billy Martin, Elston Howard, Jerry Coleman, Joe Collins, Bobby Richardson, Bobby Brown, Gil McDougald, Bill Skowron, Tony Kubek, Hank Bauer, Charley Keller, Gene Woodling, Tommy Henrich, Allie Reynolds, Vic Raschi, Ed Lopat, Frank Crosetti, Jim Turner, and Ralph Houk. Each player has signed the poster either upon or next to his respective image. Additionally, the signatures of five other Yankees old timers present that day (Earle Coombs, Johnny Kucks, Billy Hunter, Tommy Byrne, and Jim Hegan), plus longtime Yankee announcer Mel Allen and former American League umpire Billy Grieve, appear in either the upper left and right-hand corners of the poster. All of the signatures have been boldly scripted and grade "9" or "10." This poster has a unique provenance. It has been consigned by a gentleman who was the Yankees bat boy in 1970 and it was he who personally obtained all of the signature himself in the clubhouse! As he recalls, there were literally thousands of these posters printed for the Old Timers' Day game; however, few, if any, other people were attempting to get one signed. Of course, very few people other than himself had access to the players in the clubhouse, so it is no surprise that this is the first completely signed example we have ever seen. It should also be noted that nearly all of the players featured here are deceased. The poster (22 x 33 inches) displays a moderate horizontal fold and a number of moderate creases throughout, including one small tear in the upper left corner (no paper loss). Mild toning is exhibited in the white border areas, as is light foxing. In Very Good condition overall. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 29 x 40 inches. Full LOA from PSA/DNA and LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,370.00
