1951 Ty Cobb Signed Check

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $829.50

Ty Cobb personal check, dated May 5, 1951, signed in green ink (grading "10") by “Tyrus R. Cobb.” The check, drawn on the First National Bank of Nevada, features Ty Cobb’s preprinted name along the left front border and has been made out to one of Cobb's doctors, "Anthony Felsovanyi," in the amount of $25. Cobb has made a notation in the lower right reading "In full to date." While there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made literally hundreds of checks available after his passing, in exchange for a donation to the Cobb Educational Foundation, a charity that helps underprivileged children), a Cobb check is always a classic, and this is a particularly outstanding example. The check (8 x 3 inches) has standard bank cancellation stamps and perforations, as well as a vertical fold and a tiny speck of discoloration. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $829.50
