1954 New York Giants World Champions Team-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $414.75
Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-seven members of the 1954 World Champion New York Giants: Mays, Irvin, Wilhelm, Williams, Giel, Rhodes, McCall, Gomez, Lockman (ss), Dark, Katt, Antonelli, Evers, Thompson, Grissom, Amalfitano, Maglie, Monzant, Hofman, Taylor, Liddle, Hearn, Mueller, Jansen, Westrum, Gardner, and one other (illegible). The signature of Leo Durocher on the sweet spot is a stamped facsimile (common for most 1954 Giants team balls). Signatures range from "5" to "8," averaging "6/7." The Giants swept the heavily favored Cleveland Indians in the 1954 World Series to capture their first World Championship since 1933. Although Dusty Rhodes was the hitting star for the Giants, it was Willie Mays' miraculous catch of a ball off the bat of Vic Wertz in Game One that remains the defining moment of the Series. The ball displays light uneven toning on two side panels, and there is trace evidence of possible tape removal atop the Spalding logo. The manufacturer's stampings remain clearly legible. In Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $414.75
