High-Grade 1956 New York Yankees World Champions Team-Signed Ball - From the Mel Allen Collection

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $7,702.50

Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-five members of the 1956 World Champion New York Yankees: Mantle (sweet spot), Berra (sweet spot), Ford, Rizzuto, Martin, Morgan, Howard, Bauer, Carey, Larsen, Siebern, Byrne, Silvera, Terry, Turley, McDougald, Sturdivant, Skowron, Collins, Cerv, Coleman, Carroll, Grim, Hunter, and one other (illegible). Signatures range from "8" to 10," averaging "9." The name "Mel" is written in blue ink on a side panel. The "Mel" referred to in that notation is none other than Mel Allen, the legendary "voice of the Yankees." The reason his name is on the ball is because this ball originates from his personal collection. In 1997 Robert Edward Auctions had the privilege of offering all of the baseball memorabilia from Mel Allen's estate, with this ball representing one of many keepsakes saved by Mel Allen that were featured in the auction at the time. It has not seen the light of day since and has been consigned to this auction directly from the original purchaser at the 1997 Mel Allen estate auction. The ball remains in Near Mint condition. This is an extraordinary high-grade Yankees team ball, with outstanding provenance, dating from Mantle's Triple Crown and MVP season. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $7,702.50
