1955 Topps Sandy Koufax Signed Rookie Card

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,422.00

Autographed baseball cards, especially those dating to the 1950s, have always been a popular area of collectibles. The offered example is especially desirable: a 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax rookie card (#123), signed by Koufax in blue Sharpie across the front. The signature has been boldly scripted and grades a perfect "10." Koufax has long been an elusive signature among modern legends, and his rookie card will always be one of the great classics of card collecting. The combination is rare and will naturally always have great appeal to collectors. Ideally, Koufax's signature appears just under his portrait image, an area which is lighter in color than much of the card and therefore allows for strong contrast (much better, in fact, than even his preprinted facsimile signature on the card). The card has been encapsulated and graded VG-EX 4 by PSA/DNA (the signature was not graded by the company, but only certified as being authentic). While the grade is technically accurate due to a light diagonal crease in the lower right corner, the crease is only visible when viewed at certain angles and the card presents as Excellent. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600++. SOLD FOR $1,422.00
