1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Dan Brouthers - Louisville

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,963

Graded EX 60 by SGC. High-grade N300 Mayo's Cut Plug of Hall of Famer Dan Brouthers with Louisville from the popular N300 Mayo’s Cut Plug set. This is one of the important team variations in the Mayo set. Brouthers left Baltimore for Louisville late in the 1895 season, and this card reflects the team change on his uniform. Centered to the right (approximately 75/25), with flawless contrast, and light edge and corner wear. The back is nearly perfect, showing just a hint of wear. Submitted for grading by REA, this card has been consigned (along with a near-complete set of Mayos, all of which appear in this auction) by the family of one of the hobby's great pioneer collectors who assembled the set decades ago in the early days of organized collecting. This is an extremely impressive high-grade example of one of the most important cards in the Mayo set featuring one of the premier Hall of Fame members from the nineteenth century. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $5,500. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,963
