Jimmie Foxx Signed Yellow Hall of Fame Postcard: Key Rarity!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,851

Exceedingly rare yellow Baseball Hall of Fame plaque postcard, signed by Jimmie Foxx on the front. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the signature labeled "Authentic." The "Beast" has scripted his name in blue ink along the top, with the signature grading "8/9." Jimmie Foxx signed yellow Hall of Fame plaque postcards are rare, and when found today they are all invariably signed on the reverse. This is not only the first example of a yellow Hall of Fame plaque postcard signed by Foxx on the front that we have ever offered, but also the first we have ever seen. The reason Foxx's signature is so rare on a yellow Hall of Fame plaque postcard is timing. The Hall of Fame first began issuing yellow postcards in 1964 and Foxx passed away in the summer of 1967. Therefore, fans had only a short three-and-a-half year window to obtain his signature on the new cards. Unlike the older black-and-white Hall of Fame plaque postcards, the yellow postcards featured a slick front surface that were more difficult to write on. That is probably the reason why, when presented a yellow postcard to sign, Foxx almost always scripted his name on the reverse. While we cannot be certain, it is likely that the original owner of this card specifically requested Foxx to sign on the front, which Foxx did, thereby creating one of the great modern rarities in the field of Hall of Fame autograph collecting. Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,851
