Circa Late 1960s New York Yankees Old Timers' Day Signed Ball with DiMaggio, Martin, and Twenty-Three Others
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $948
Official American League (Cronin) ball signed in blue ink by twenty-five former members of the New York Yankees. This ball was most likely obtained at a Yankees Old Timers' Day game or similar affair given the fact that nearly all of the players who have signed the ball were retired during the ball's manufacturing period (1959-1970). The signatures appearing here are those of Joe DiMaggio, Red Ruffing, Bill Dickey, Earl Combs, Lefty Gomez, Johnny Mize, Waite Hoyt, Bob Shawkey (sweet spot), Spud Chandler (sweet spot), Spec Shea, Gil McDougald, Bob Turley, Tommy Henrich, Hank Bauer, Jerry Coleman, Moose Skowron, Allie Reynolds, Joe Page, Bobby Shantz, Joe Collins, George Selkirk, Red Rolfe, Charlie Keller, Billy Martin, and Ed Lopat. The signatures of Bauer, McDougald, Selkirk, Reynolds, Shantz, Hoyt, and Lopat have slightly faded and display a violet hue, but all are clearly legible (averaging "6/7"). The remaining signatures have been boldly scripted, averaging "9." The ball remains in Near Mint condition. This is an outstanding New York Yankees signed ball, featuring seven Hall of Fame players, commemorating nearly four decades of baseball dominance. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $948
