Honus Wagner Single-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,629
Goldsmith "Official League Ball" signed by Honus Wagner, baseball's legendary "Flying Dutchman." Wagner has signed the ball in black fountain pen on a side panel, with the signature grading "7." Wagner, considered by many as the greatest shortstop in baseball history, was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame and his signature alone on a baseball has always been highly prized by collectors. Like nearly all other Honus Wagner single-signed balls in the hobby today, this example most likely dates to the 1930s or 1940s, a time in which Wagner was a coach with the Pirates. Wagner's coaching tenure with the Pirates ran from 1933 through 1951, and he died four years later in 1955. A Honus Wagner single-signed ball is a requisite for any advanced collection and the offered example would be a welcome addition to any such collection still in need of one. The ball displays a few areas of light, scattered toning, as well as a few minor surface blemishes, but all of the manufacturer's labels remain bold and legible. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $5,629
