1961 Golden Press Baseball High-Grade SGC-Graded Complete Set (33)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $948

Offered is an exceptional ultra high-grade complete set of 1961 Golden Press cards. All thirty-three cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC. This classic set features all the great stars of the game, including legendary Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Ty Cobb, Cy Young, and Walter Johnson. Included are three GEM 98s, fifteen MINT 96, three NM/MT+ 92s, nine NM/MT 88s, and three NM 84s. This issue is very substantial and interesting, yet is somewhat overlooked in the card-collecting world. Golden Press spared no expense in producing a beautiful set of cards featuring Hall of Famers. For years these sets were sold at souvenir shops in Cooperstown. Looking at the quality and design of the set, it is easy to appreciate its enormous aesthetic appeal both to youngsters in the 1960s and to modern vintage-card collectors that are familiar with the set. The SGC grades are as follows: Three GEM 98: #5 Terry, 15 Traynor, and 20 Simmons. Fifteen MINT 96: #6 Hubbell, 7 Hornsby, 8 Dean, 9 Dimaggio, 10 Gehringer, 11 Hartnett, 12 Cochrane, 14 Cronin, 16 Gehrig, 17 Grove, 19 Frisch, 21 Baker, 26 Vance, 27 Dickey, and 30 Speaker. Three NM/MT+ 92: #2 Alexander, 23 McGraw, and 29 Johnson. Nine NM/MT 88: #3 Ruth, 4 Greenberg, 13 Sisler, 22 Foxx, 24 Mathewson, 25 Cobb, 28 Collins, 31 Lajoie, and 33 Young. Three NM 84: #1 Ott, 18 Bender, and 32 Wagner. This is a tremendous high-grade set of this historic, classic, and often overlooked baseball issue. The equivalent SMR value for the individual cards (not including the three GEM 98 cards) is $1,862. Total: 33 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $948
