1955 Topps Complete Set (206)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,851

70% range in grade from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex overall) with a few Nr/Mt, and 30% are Vg (with a few slightly lesser). This is a very attractive complete set of the classic 1955 Topps issue, technically ranging from mid to high grade but appearing even stronger, and with many condition highlights, including an extremely strong example of key card #164 Roberto Clemente (BVG EX-MT 6). Highlighted by the rookie cards of Sandy Koufax and Roberto Clemente, the 1955 Topps also includes many additional key star cards, including Ted Williams and Willie Mays. Ten cards are graded and encapsulated by BVG (Beckett). Keys: #1 Rhodes (Vg-Ex/Ex), 2 Williams (BVG VG+ 3.5), 4 Kaline (Vg), 28 Banks (Gd), 31 Spahn (no right border, otherwise Ex), 47 Aaron (BVG EX 5), 50 Robinson (BVG EX 5), 100 Irvin (Ex-Mt), 120 Kluszewski (Vg-Ex), 123 Koufax (BVG VG-EX+ 4.5), 124 Killebrew (BVG EX+ 5.5), 125 Boyer (no bottom border, otherwise Ex), 152 Agganis RC (Vg-Ex), 155 Mathews (BVG VG-EX+ 4.5), 164 Clemente (BVG EX-MT 6), 187 Hodges (BVG VG-EX+ 4.5), 189 Rizzuto (Gd), 194 Mays (BVG EX 5), 198 Berra (Vg-Ex), and 210 Snider (BVG VG+ 3.5). Attractive mid-grade sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this, especially when the set is on the strong side of the term "mid-grade" and the many stars and key cards are so pleasing and consistent with the rest of the set, always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. The #164 Clemente rookie card in this set by itself has an equivalent SMR value of $1,300. Total: 206 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++.
