1953 Red Man Tobacco #5 Roy Campanella

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,067

Graded MINT 9 by BVG (Beckett). Absolutely stunning, remarkably crisp, ultra high-grade MINT example of Roy Campanella, one of the key cards from the 1953 Red Man Tobacco set. Bright, crisp, perfectly clean, with a bright yellow background, four razor-sharp corners, and a flawless reverse with bold red printing. Red Man Tobacco cards are far rarer than most 1950s baseball cards. Because of their tabs (which were designed to be cut) and method of issue, they often have condition problems, and are rarely seen in such high grade. Many consider them to be among the most beautiful cards ever issued, and to represent one of the best values of all cards from the era. This is a simply outstanding high-grade example of this striking and unusual Campanella card dating from the early 1950s. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $2,750. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+.
