1933 R319 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,252

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Beautiful example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards: #181 Ruth with green background from the 1933 Goudey series. This is a very attractive card, especially for the grade. It is bright and clean, both front and back, with even wear to the corners, perfect registration, brilliant colors, and with just a light surface wrinkle (barely visible) on the reverse. This card is in an extremely desirable condition, at a glance appearing stronger than Vg-Ex, and sharing most important elements in common with examples of a much higher technical grade. Incredibly, this card has been consigned directly by the original owner, now 87 years old, who purchased this card as a youngster when it was issued in 1933 and has saved it ever since (along with the rest of his 1933 Goudeys, all of which are presented in this auction). This is a magnificent high-quality card with a very unusual and rare direct original-owner provenance, and is ideal for the collector who wants a beautiful 1933 Goudey #181 Ruth card, but is not interested in spending the many thousands (or even tens of thousands) of dollars a significantly higher-graded example would require. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,252
