1933 R333 DeLong Gum Complete SGC-Graded Set Minus 1 (23/24)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,851

Near-complete set of 1933 DeLong Gum comprised of twenty-three different of twenty-four cards in the set (missing only #7 Gehrig for completion), all graded by SGC. DeLongs have always held a special place in the hearts of collectors. The small size of the set, their relative rarity compared to most others card sets of the era, their unique dimensions and design, and their status as a "one-year issue" all combine to give DeLongs a mystique among serious collectors. This is a beautiful set (minus one) of these legendary cards! The SGC grades are as follows: Nine VG/EX 50: #6 Cochrane, 8 Cuyler, 10 O'Doul, 12 Traynor, 13 Maranville, 15, 17 Martin, 20, and 22 Klein. Thirteen VG 40: #1 McManus, 2 Simmons, 3, 4 Terry, 5 Gehringer, 11 Lindstrom, 14 Gomez, 16, 18, 19 Hafey, 21 Foxx, 23 Grove, and 24 Goslin. One GOOD 30: #9 Urbanski (signed in black ink). As a rule, vintage cards which are graded Vg to Vg-Ex by SGC are usually extremely attractive cards. That is certainly the case with this complete set (minus 1), which presents a rarely offered, relatively affordable alternative to a higher-grade set, yet without sacrificing the visual qualities that make the DeLong Gum set so appealing, and including particularly strong examples of key cards Jimmie Foxx and Lefty Grove. This set is the result of a tremendous amount of work, with great thought given to overall eye-appeal and value. This is an extremely clean, attractive, and very consistently graded set of these 1930s classics. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades is $2,780. Total: 23 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,851
