1911 T205 Gold Border "Sovereign Backs" Collection (35)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,067

Collection of thirty-five different tobacco cards from the T205 Gold Borders series, including two Hall of Famers, each with the Sovereign tobacco advertisement on the reverse. Sovereign is a scarce back, certainly not in the same league as Drum or Hindu, but very unusual and seen far less often than standard advertising backs (Hassan, Piedmont, Sweet Caporal). To find thirty-five different cards, all with Sovereign backs, together in one group is very unusual! Condition ranges from Fair to Vg, averaging Gd overall. Five cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (except one PSA). The collection consists of the following: Ames, Austin, Bailey, Bell, Bergen, Birmingham, Bransfield, Delahanty, Devlin, Dickson, Doolan, Ferguson, Flynn, Foxen, Graham (Rustlers), Harmon (both ears), Killian (PSA VG 3), LaPorte, Lennox, Livingston, Lobert (SGC VG 40), Lord, Lush, McElveen (SGC VG 40), McGraw (HOF, SGC VG 40), Meyers, Paskert, Reulbach, Richie, Schmidt, Shean (Rustlers), Snodgrass, Stone, Wheat (HOF, SGC VG 40), and Wiltse (both ears). It would be hard for any vintage-card collector to not notice the great interest that has developed in collecting T206 White Borders by advertising back. T205 Gold Borders are also growing in collector interest and it is our guess that the popularity of this area will continue to expand, following the lead of T206 collectors. This is a very substantial group of T205 Gold Borders, all with Sovereign Cigarettes "Fit For A King" ad backs. Total: 35 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
