1911 T3 Turkey Red #9 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,259

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Presented is one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series: #9 Ty Cobb. Besides being the most valuable card in the set, it is also one of the most desirable and striking of all Ty Cobb cards. Do not be fooled by the modest grade on this impressive card! When we sent this card in to SGC, we knew the light horizontal crease would allow only a modest grade that all alone could not possibly do justice to the card. As can easily be seen, it has a much stronger appearance than its technically accurate grade. This example is bright and crisp, with bold colors, a light horizontal surface crease across the image (and a second small surface crease in the upper right corner), some light corner wear, and is very well centered. The checklist back has a few light stains (of little or no consequence). The colors are as bright and fresh as when issued in 1911! This is a very attractive example of card #9 Ty Cobb, in an extremely desirable grade. The classic Turkey Red set is considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. The T3 Ty Cobb has always and will always be in high demand, especially a relatively affordable mid-grade example such as this that presents so much better than its technical grade. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $3,259
