1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb - Green Background - PSA EX 5

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,851

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Crisp, clean, very attractive mid-grade example of this classic tobacco card of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb. The Green Background pose has long been considered the rarest of the four poses of Cobb in the T206 set. This card has very strong eye-appeal. The colors are bright and Cobb’s image is perfectly focused. The unusual as-printed green background with yellow accents gives this card a particularly striking and distinctive appearance, possibly unique to cards designed with green backgrounds; we offered a Cy Young portrait in 2011 with the same background print quality. The centering is just a hint to the left and all four corners have light, even wear. The Piedmont reverse has bold blue print against an off-white background. This is a very strong and attractive example of one of the key cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era. SMR value is $5,250. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $3,851
