1909-1911 T206 Tris Speaker - SGC EX/NM 80

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,666

Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Crisp, clean, high-grade example of this classic tobacco card of Hall of Famer Tris Speaker, considered by many to be among the most attractive of all T206 images. This card was one of the condition highlights from a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. This is a particularly important Hall of Fame card in the set, as this is the only T206 pose of Speaker, as well as being his rookie card. All four corners are sharp, with just the slightest hint of wear on the tips keeping the card from grading higher. The card displays near-perfect centering with a slight diamond cut, vibrant colors, and flawless registration. The Sweet Caporal reverse is also perfectly clean. This is a strong EX-MT example, bordering NM territory. The equivalent SMR value is $1,700. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
