Lot # 206 (of 1641)   < Previous Lot | Next Lot >

1909-1911 T206 White Border SGC-Graded Collection (31 cards including 15 HOFers)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $3,555

Sharp-looking group of thirty-one different cards from this classic tobacco issue, with fifteen Hall of Famers, including Christy Mathewson, Nap Lajoie, Walter Johnson, and Cy Young. The cards have all been graded and encapsulated by SGC. Backs are almost all Polar Bear, but three Piedmont examples are also included. All the cards range from Vg to Ex on the front, but have been downgraded for very light glue residue on the reverse. As can easily be seen, because of this all have an appearance far superior to their assigned grades! SGC Condition Report: Twelve GOOD 30: Baker (HOF), Brown (HOF, Chicago), Davis (Davis on front), Evers (HOF, Chicago), Griffith (HOF, bat), Lajoie (HOF, bat), Mathewson (HOF, dark cap), Moriarty, Rucker (throwing), Stahl (glove), Willis (HOF, throwing), and Young (HOF, glove). Eleven FAIR 20: Bescher (port.), Chance (HOF, yellow), Downey (fielding), Fromme, Huggins (HOF, hands at mouth, Piedmont), Johnson (HOF, hands at chest), Marquard (HOF, port., Piedmont), McIntyre (Bklyn & Chi.), McLean, Tinker (HOF, bat off), and White (port.). One POOR 10: Joss (HOF, pitching). Seven Authentic: Burke, Bush, Hoblitzell, Jennings (HOF, one hand), Kleinow (Bos.), Mattern, and Turner (Piedmont). This is a very attractive group, with a high concentration of Hall of Famers, and a great starter collection for a mid-grade T206 set. The equivalent SMR value for twenty-four cards (not including the seven Authentic cards) is $1,514. Total: 31 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200+. SOLD FOR $3,555
