1897 Cameo Pepsin Gum Thornton Pin - Newly Discovered Checklist Addition!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,778

Exceedingly rare, newly discovered Cameo Pepsin Gum pin of Chicago White Stockings pitcher Walter Thornton. This is the first Thornton Cameo Pepsin Gum pin we have ever seen and it may represent the only known example, since it does not appear in any of the published checklists, including the 2011 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards. Incredibly, it was just recently discovered by a family of non collectors who found it while going through their grandmother's possessions (it was one of nine Cameo Pespins gum pins found at the time, all of which are offered on the internet-only portion of this auction). Near Mint condition, with the reverse paper label remaining completely intact. Manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag. Diameter: 1.25 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,778
