1962 Topps "Civil War News" Uncut Sheet Collection (9 sheets)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,259

The Civil War centennial celebration was still going strong in 1962 when Topps issued the "Civil War News" set. Each card has multicolored artwork of a battle scene or historical event. The text on the reverse is designed in the style of a newspaper. The extraordinary artwork and accurate historical information presented on these cards have always distinguished them as one of Topps' most ambitious projects. Presented is an extraordinary and unique collection of nine 1962 Topps "Civil War News" uncut sheets. 1-4) Four Final Production Sheets: These four panels have fully printed backs, and one of the panels has been neatly divided on the front and back by pencil lines into "card sections." One panel is a 24-card panel measuring 14.5 x 15.25 inches, the next is a 16-card panel measuring 14.5 x 12.75 inches, the third is a 12-card panel measuring 14.25 x 7.75 inches, and the fourth panel is a 12-card panel measuring 14.5 x 10 inches (pencil lines as noted above). 5-6) Two Full-Color Process Sheets: These two panels have fully complete fronts with blank backs. One panel is a 24-card panel measuring 17.5 x 15.5 inches and the other is a 20-card panel measuring 17.5 x 13.5 inches. 7-8) Two Single-Color Process Sheets: Both of these are black printing only panels with blank-backs. One panel is a 24-card panel measuring 17.5 x 15.75 inches and the other is a 20-card panel measuring 17.5 x 13.25 inches. 9) One Full-Color Process Sheet: This 12-card panel (14.5 x 7.5 inches) has fully complete fronts with a thin paper mock-up of the card backs glued to the reverse. There are production-related marks on the back. The fronts of the sheets have an Excellent appearance (with the corners and edges displaying minor wear). The interior cards have naturally been protected on all four sides by the surrounding cards, and most are in MINT condition. This is an extremely significant and unique uncut sheet collection of 1962 Topps "Civil War News," one of the most popular of all 1960s nonsport card sets. Total: 9 sheets. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,259
