1942 Orville Wright Signed Check

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067

Bank check, dated October 29, 1942, signed by Orville Wright (1871-1948), American aviation pioneer. The bank check, drawn on The Winters National Bank & Trust Co., of Dayton, Ohio, is made out to "Carrie Grumbach" in the amount of $29.39 and has been signed in black fountain pen (grading "10') by "Orville Wright." Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright built and flew the first manned, motor-powered heavier-than-air craft. The first flight, with Orville at the controls, took place at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903. The success of that flight paved the way for the development of larger and heavier planes shortly after. The check (8.5 x 3 inches) displays normal bank cancelation stamps and perforations, as well as a very light vertical fold. In Excellent condition. Mounted and framed together with a recent print of the Wright brothers testing their plane at Kitty Hawk. Total dimensions: 16 x 17.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,067
