1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Honus Wagner - Throwing

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Bright and clean, both front and back, with vibrant colors, four square corners, no caramel stains, and centered to the right (approximately 75/25 L/R) with a natural slight diamond cut. There is a light surface wrinkle near the upper right corner. Aside from the noted faults, this card is in extraordinary condition, all the more so for a caramel card, which because they were issued with candy, one card per package, tend to survive in lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. This is a tremendous high-grade example of the rarer throwing pose of the legendary Honus Wagner from the premier “E” card issue. (Interesting provenance note: Our consignor was the owner of a very unusual original find of four E90-1 Wagners and sold the other two cards at REA in 2011. The last two cards each appear as separate lots in this auction.) The SMR value for a PSA VG-EX 4 is $2,000. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,963
