1951 Jim Thorpe Cut Signature

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $533

Cut signature of Jim Thorpe (1888-1953), Olympic gold-medal winner and the man considered by many to be the single greatest athlete of the twentieth century. Encapsulated by SGC (in conjunction with James Spence Authentication), with the signature labeled "Authentic." Thorpe's signature has been boldly penned in black fountain pen, grading "10." Located directly below the signature is the year, "1951," written in black fountain pen, and a small affixed newspaper or magazine portrait photo of Thorpe. The irregularly shaped cut (3.25 x 2.5 inches) was obviously taken from an autograph album, as there is a partial signature (unidentified individual) on the reverse. The signature and affixed photo are each partially covered by a few separate pieces of clear tape. In Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $533
