Mickey Mantle Signed Store-Model Bat and Early Mickey Mantle Store-Model Aluminum Bat (2)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $830

Extremely rare matching pair of two early 1970s H&B Mickey Mantle store-model bats; one wood (this one is personally signed by Mantle) and the other aluminum. Both of the twenty-eight-inch-long "Approved Junior League" bats are near-identical in design and display an illustrated portrait image of Mantle on the barrel, as well as his facsimile signature and the "Louisville Slugger" brand name. The center brand on the wood version features the designation "125LLPJ," while the aluminum example is lettered "A607J-28." H&B did not begin producing aluminum bats until the early 1970s and the offered example is obviously one of the company's earliest models. We have never seen an H&B Mantle store-model aluminum bat, making this a particularly rare Mantle collectible. The wooden bat has been flawlessly inscribed by Mantle ("Mickey Mantle/No. 7") in blue Sharpie (grading "10") just below the "Louisville Slugger" brand name on the barrel. Both bats display moderate-to-heavy use; however, the wooden bat is not cracked and the aluminum bat retains its original rubber grip on the handle. All of the lettering on both barrels, as well as Mantle's illustrated portrait images, remain almost completely intact. In Very Good condition overall. Total: 2 bats (one signed). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $830
