Rare Rocky Colavito Hartland Statue with Original Box

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $593

Offered here are two exceptional rarities from the Hartland series of baseball statues: 1) Rocky Colavito and 2) its original retail box. As any Hartland collector knows, Colavito is one of the most elusive of all statues in the series and the reason for that is twofold. First, it was the penultimate figure issued by the company before it was purchased by the Revlon Cosmetics Company in 1963 (Dick Groat was the final player offered in the series). Following its purchase by Revlon, Hartland immediately ceased all production of collectible figures. Second, at the time of its issue, Hartland was experiencing a sharp decline in sales of its statues, thus resulting in a much more limited production run for both the Colavito and Groat. As rare as the Colavito statue is today, it pales in comparison to that of the original box, which is seldom seen outside of the most advanced collections. This offering not only features a high-grade example of the Colavito statue but the original box as well, making it an exceptional opportunity to acquire two of the most sought-after "keys" to any complete set of baseball Hartlands. At one time the statue's foot became detached from its foot plate (not a break, the original adhesive holding the two pieces together simply became weak with age), but has since been repaired with a new application of glue (this is undetectable); it is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Complete with its original bat. The box (5 x 3 x 8 inches) displays its original retail price tag, light toning, a number of moderate creases throughout, a few light stains, and an approximate three-inch tear along the base of the front that has been repaired with clear tape. In Very Good condition overall. Despite the technical flaws, the box still displays beautifully and is probably superior to most of the few surviving examples. Also included is the original Hartland advertising brochure (Nr-Mt). Total: three items: statue, box, and advertising brochure. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $593
