1926-1965 World Series Program Collection (33) Plus Programs, Yearbooks, and Related Material
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,555
This large collection of baseball programs, yearbooks, scorecards, and related material is highlighted by thirty-three World Series programs (including a few duplicates) spanning the years 1926 through 1965. Also included is a rare preseason Brooklyn Dodgers program from a 1947 exhibition game against the New York Yankees, featuring Jackie Robinson in the lineup for the Dodgers; a 1950 New York Yankees/Dodgers spring training exhibition-game program signed on the cover by various members of the Yankees, including Joe DiMaggio; a number of 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers yearbooks and regular season programs; and various baseball-stadium postcards. World Series Program Collection (unless otherwise noted, programs have not been scored): 1926 Cardinals (Fr-Gd), 1928 Yankees (Gd), 1929 Athletics (Pr, missing front cover, numerous ink notations throughout), 1930 Cardinals (scored in pencil for Game 3; Fr), 1931 Cardinals (Gd), 1941 Yankees (scored in ink for Game 1; Vg, with written notations on the score pages), 1943 Yankees (scored in pencil for Game 1; Gd, with written notations on the score pages), 1950 Yankees (Gd), 1951 Yankees (Gd-Vg), 1952 Yankees (partially scored in pencil; Gd), 1952 Dodgers (two programs; Vg and Fr-Gd), 1953 Dodgers (Vg), 1954 Indians (Vg-Ex), 1954 Giants (Vg), 1955 Yankees (Vg), 1955 Dodgers (two programs; one scored in pencil for Game 3, Vg; the other scored in pencil for Game 5, Fr-Gd), 1956 Yankees (partially scored in pencil and erased; Vg), 1956 Dodgers (two programs; one scored in ink for Game 1, Fr-Gd; the other, Vg-Ex), 1957 Yankees (scored in pencil for Game 1; Vg), 1957 Braves (has recap of all World Series games stamped on the Braves score sheet page; this may have been a surplus copy, as it also bears the stamp of a used-book dealer on the last page; otherwise Ex-Mt), 1958 Braves (scored in pencil for Game 6; Ex-Mt), 1958 Yankees (Vg, tape repair on interior page), 1959 White Sox (scored in pencil for Game 6, with interior notations on scorer page in French; Ex-Mt), 1959 Dodgers (scored in ink for Game 4; Ex-Mt), 1960 Yankees (Ex-Mt), 1960 Pirates (Ex-Mt), 1961 Yankees (small tear on interior page; otherwise Nr-Mt), 1963 Yankees (Gd-Vg), 1963 Yankees (Vg), 1965 Dodgers (Ex-Mt). Additional Items: 1) 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers exhibition-game program (vs. the New York Yankees) with Jackie Robinson listed at first base for the Dodgers. This program appears to be from one of a number of exhibition games played between the Yankees and Dodgers between April 11th, the day Robinson signed with the Dodgers, and April 15th, the date of the Dodgers first regular-season game. The program has been scored in pencil to record a 16-7 Dodgers victory. Unfortunately, our research has failed to verify an exhibition game between the two clubs that spring ending in a final score of 16-7. (The scores of the games we found were 14-6, 8-1, and 10-9.) Vg. 2) 1950 Brooklyn Dodgers spring-training program from an exhibition game against the New York Yankees at Miami Stadium in Miami, Florida. The program is signed in black ink (grading "10") on the front cover by thirteen members of the New York Yankees: DiMaggio, Mize, Berra, Lindell, Pillette, Stirnwiess, Johnson, Crosetti (coach), Sanford, Wakefield, Turner (coach), Marshall (he was traded to the Browns in May), and one other (illegible). Vg. 3) 1960 All-Star Game program at Yankee Stadium (Ex-Mt). 4-10) Seven regular-season Brooklyn Dodgers programs (three scored): 1932 (scored vs. Chicago), 1935 (scored vs. St. Louis), 1935 (scored vs. Philadelphia), 1951 (vs. Philadelphia), 1953 (vs. New York), 1954 (vs. Pittsburgh), and 1956 (vs. Milwaukee). Overall Excellent condition. 11-17) Seven Brooklyn Dodgers yearbooks: 1949, 1950, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1955, and 1957. Very Good condition overall with the exception of 1955 (Poor). 18) 1947 Baseball's Beloved Bums by Joe Hasel. This edition features the special Jackie Robinson insert page (the magazine was originally published prior to Robinson's joining the club). Vg-Ex. 19-40) Twenty-two vintage Yankee Stadium postcards spanning nearly six decades. The earliest postcard dates from 1911 (based upon the postmark) and shows a colorized game-in-progress scene at Hilltop Park. All of the remaining postcards date from between the 1920s and early 1960s and picture Yankee Stadium. Six of the postcards have been postally used; otherwise in overall Excellent condition. Total: 73 items (33 World Series programs and 40 additional miscellaneous items). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,555
