1962 Salada-Junket Coins Uncut Sheet

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,880

Rare uncut sheet of 1962 Salada-Junket coins. This extremely attractive full-color coin set was issued one plastic-with-paper-insert coin per package with Salada Tea and Junket Pudding mix. Offered is an uncut sheet (15 x 28 inches) of the initial 180 different presented in their original format as produced by the printer before being cut into circles and inserted into the colorful plastic coins as issued. The sheet includes Mantle, Yaz, Koufax, Kaline, Brock, Killebrew, B. Robinson, McCovey, Torre, and many other stars of the era. Salada coins are also one of the more interesting choices of premiums ever devised to help generate sales of a product. We understand the issuing of these coins with desserts, but when you get right down to it, it's just hard to imagine what Salada was thinking when they also issued these with tea. Even in the early 1960s, few youngsters were drinking tea, and even those that did have an occasional cup could not possibly be expected to drink enough to actually collect this set, issued one coin per box. But this is part of the charm of the set; and the unique designs, great players, and unmistakable early 1960s flavor of the set make this issue a classic of the era. We have not seen many of these sheets offered in recent years but many years ago a small group surfaced. This is a very unusual and rare uncut 1960s sheet highlighted by Mickey Mantle. There are three minor creases (barely visible) to the left of Davis, Herrera, and Smith, and the printing is ever-so-slightly off register (this probably relates to why it survived in sheet form), otherwise Ex-Mt condition overall and ideal for display. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,880
