1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Jack Glasscock Louisville - SGC NM+ 86 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,644

Graded NM+ 86 by SGC. Highest-graded example! Outstanding high-grade N300 Mayo's Cut Plug of Jack Glasscock with Louisville. Glasscock is a particularly interesting card in the Mayo set because his card was issued two ways: one with the team name "Pittsburgh" on his shirt, and the other with "Louisville" on his shirt. Glasscock left Pittsburgh following the 1894 season, and played eighteen games with Louisville in 1895. This is the later version issued by Mayo, featuring him with "Louisville" on his shirt. This is a very bright and crisp card, with virtually no wear to the condition-sensitive edges and corners, and just minor edge wear along the top and right on the reverse, which is otherwise flawless. Of the 966 Mayo's Cut Plug Tobacco cards in total graded to date by SGC, only three examples have graded SGC NM+ 86 or better! These numbers speak for themselves. This is an extremely impressive high-grade example of one of the great nineteenth-century stars (many believe Jack Glasscock should be in the Hall of Fame) and one of the most important variation cards in the Mayo set. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,644
