1954 Topps Complete Set (250)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113

90% range from Ex to Ex-Mt or better (includes some Nr/Mt and even a few Nr/Mt-Mt cards), and 10% slightly lesser (including a few slightly trimmed). We have selected ten cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Williams (Authentic, slight trim along the top border, otherwise Ex), 3 Irvin (Ex), 7 Kluszewski (Ex), 10 Robinson (EX 60), 13 Martin (Nr/Mt), 17 Rizzuto (Authentic, slight trim along the top border, otherwise Ex-Mt), 20 Spahn (EX+ 70), 30 Mathews (EX/NM 80), 32 Snider (Ex), 36 Wilhelm (Ex-Mt), 37 Ford (Vg-Ex/Ex), 45 Ashburn (Ex+), 50 Berra (EX/NM 80), 70 Doby (Ex), 90 Mays (EX 60), 94 Banks RC (EX/NM 80), 102 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 128 Aaron RC (ASA NM 7, we have no experience with this grading company, but the card appears to be fine, and we grade it Ex-Mt), 132 Lasorda RC (Vg/Vg-Ex), 201 Kaline RC (NM 84), 239 Skowron RC (Ex), and 250 Williams (EX+ 70). This is an extremely consistent and surprisingly high grade complete set of this early 1950s classic, far better than we usually see, with tremendous eye-appeal throughout. The set technically ranges from medium to high grade (with 90% Ex to Ex-Mt and better); it has an overall presentation of an even much more expensive and higher-grade set. This set was saved by an old-time collector and has not seen the light of day for many years. Early sets in this grade are especially desirable, representing an outstanding and least volatile value in the world of vintage cards. The equivalent SMR value for just eight of the ten graded cards (not including the two SGC cards encapsulated "Authentic" and the 240 ungraded cards) is $2,025. Also included are twenty-five duplicates (all commons). Total: 275 cards (set of 250 plus 25 duplicates). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
