1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays - SGC NM/MT 88

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,050

Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Outstanding ultra high-grade example of one of collecting's most classic cards, the 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays. Of the 207 examples submitted to SGC for grading to date, only one copy has ever graded higher. This is a stunning card! The corners are strong and sharp, with just the slightest hint of wear visible under magnification. The colors are bright, bold, and crisp. Perfectly clean, both front and back, with snow-white borders, and a flawless surface. The centering approaches perfection (approximately 55/45 left to right, with a very slight tilt to the image). This is an outstanding example in all respects of one of Willie Mays' most important cards, and one of 1950s bubble gum-card collecting's most famous and universally recognized classics. The equivalent SMR value is $7,500. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $7,050
