1948-1949 Leaf Complete Standard Set Plus Rare Hermanski and Aberson Variations (51)

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $5,875

Complete 49-card "standard" set of 1948-1949 Leaf Baseball cards plus two variations for a total of fifty-one cards, highlighted by fourteen Hall of Famers including Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Stan Musial's rookie card, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson's rookie card, Warren Spahn's rookie card, Honus Wagner, and the Gene Hermanski error card (one of the most famous of all postwar error-cards). Seven cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Keys: #1 DiMaggio (EX 60), 3 Ruth (EX/NM 80), 4 Musial RC (EX 60), 11 Rizzuto RC (Vg-Ex), 32 Spahn RC (Ex), 38 Kluszewski RC (Ex-Mt), 46 Mize (Ex), 59 Appling (Gd), 70 Wagner (EX/NM 80), 76 Williams (NM 84), 79 Robinson (EX 60), 83 Doerr (Ex), 91 Kiner RC (Ex-Mt), 102 Hermanski/error (EX+ 70, name misspelled as "Hermansk"), 106 Boudreau (Ex), 117 Gordon (Vg), and 136 Aberson/short sleeve (Vg-Ex). The balance of the cards grade as follows: Eighteen cards range from Ex to Nr/Mt, and sixteen cards Vg to Vg-Ex (with a couple slightly lesser). A few upgrades (of mostly commons) would make this an exceptional high-grade set of one of the most popular of all postwar bubble-gum card sets. This is a very impressive-looking mid- to high-grade set with many significant condition highlights including particularly strong examples of key cards Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, and Jackie Robinson. The Honus Wagner card in the 1948 Leaf set has always been a favorite with collectors as he is pictured with chewing tobacco. The equivalent SMR value for just the seven graded cards (not including the 44 other cards in the set) is $5,250 (there is no value listed in the SMR for the EX+ 5.5 grade, so the value of one example graded at this level was calculated using the EX 5 value). Total: 51 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+. SOLD FOR $5,875
