1909-1916 PC758 Max Stein Postcard Collection Including Wagner, McGraw, Tinker (7)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938

Collection of seven different cards from the rare and highly regarded PC758 Max Stein postcard set issued from 1909 to 1916, highlighted by Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, John McGraw, Frank Chance, and Joe Tinker. The collection is comprised of the following: Bodie (Vg-Ex/Ex), Frank Chance (HOF, possible slight trim top edge, otherwise Vg-Ex), John McGraw (HOF, tiny number "225" and "op x 89" written in pencil on back, otherwise Vg), Meyers (Vg), Joe Tinker (HOF, tiny pricing pencil notations on back, otherwise Vg; great-looking card!), Honus Wagner (HOF, Gd with small surface paper loss at edge of bottom right, not particularly distracting but would affect technical grade; interesting note: the image on this card is the same hitting pose of Wagner which appears in the E300 Plow's Candy set), and Cubs (Clymer/Goode/Miller/Mitchell/Schulte, the number "1048" written in pencil on front, possible slight trim to the left edge, otherwise Ex). The cards have never been mailed and have no writing on their traditional postcard reverses. Baseball photographer Max Stein's classic photo-finish postcards are among the most revered of all early twentieth-century postcards. Impressive technically mid-grade group of seven cards, including four Hall of Famers, from one of the most unusual and substantial of all 1910-era baseball-postcard issues. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Total: 7 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,938
