1940 Hughes Frozen Confections Sacramento Solons PCL Collection (14/20)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,293

Collection of fourteen (of the 20 in the set) rare regional cards from the 1940 Hughes Frozen Confections Sacramento Solons PCL series. The set is comprised exclusively of players from the Sacramento Solons of the Pacific Coast League. One card was issued with each package of frozen products. Because of the method which they were packaged (cards were actually stuck to the frozen product), stains and creases are common with this issue, making it virtually impossible to assemble a high-grade set. The black-and-white cards measure 2 x 3 inches with Sacramento Solons’ 1940 home schedule on the backs. The six cards missing for completion are Almada, Asbell, Handley, McLaughlin, Riel, and Wieczorek. We have never before offered a large group or near-set as presented here of this rare regional PCL issue. The collection is comprised of the following: Barton (Vg), Blattner (Gd), Borgmann (Fr), Freitas (Fr), Garibaldi (Vg-Ex), Grik (Gd), Judd (Fr), King (Vg-Ex), Kleinke (Vg-Ex), Marshall (Vg), Ogrodowski (Fr), Schmidt (Fr), Wasley (Gd), and Williams (Vg-Ex). This is a very substantial and presentable group of these regional PCL rarities, with even the lowest-graded cards having great eye-appeal. Total: 14 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
