1936 R312 National Chicle Premium Joe DiMaggio PSA NM-MT 8 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,113

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Highest-graded example by PSA! National Chicle premium dating from DiMaggio's first full season with the Yankees in 1936. This is an extremely significant card as it is, with good reason, universally recognized to be one of Joe DiMaggio's true rookie cards. This is also the key card from the R312 National Chicle series. This card (submitted for grading by REA) was very carefully chosen for purchase by our consignor in the early days of conventions in the 1980s, long before the advent of professional grading, precisely due to its outstanding condition. It is a gem! The card is bright, crisp, and clean, with a flawless surface, four sharp corners, and an outstanding image. The reverse is also perfectly clean. The beautiful, rich pastel colors of R312 premiums make them one of the most striking and distinctive of all 1930s issues. Considering how substantial they are, R312 premiums have received very little attention from collectors, in part due to the fact that they are larger than standard cards, and therefore have only recently begun to be encapsulated by grading services, and the fact that they are blank-backed with no identification of the issuer. A case could be made that they represent one of the best values among all 1930s issues. This is an extremely important and overlooked card, one of Joe DiMaggio's true rookie cards, and one that would be a significant highlight in even the most advanced Joe DiMaggio or Hall of Fame card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
